高コンテクストと低コンテクスト文化 #1
今日はちょっと難しいように見えて個人的に面白いなって思ったことを書こうと思うの。と言っても口調はいつも通りアホっぽい日本語だから楽しんで読んでもらえたらなって思ったり。多分外国人と付き合いのある人には面白い内容だと思う。（一応私の記事はフランス人と日本人に重点を置いて書いているけど、その他の国の人でも適応できる考え方。）
さて、アメリカの人類学者にEdward T. Hallって人がいまして、彼はいろんな国の文化の違いをすごくわかりやすく文章にしている人なわけ。
海外で生活をしてる人や外国人の彼氏がいる人なんかは古い本だけど彼の本は１度読んでみる価値はあると思うの。
外国人彼氏と２人で色々話すネタにもなるし、本当にオススメ。
彼の本によるとフランスと日本、どちらも高コンテクスト文化に分類されるらしい。逆に低コンテクスト文化に分類されるのはドイツ、アメリカ、北欧とか。
（もうこの時点で難しいと思った人、多分”コンテクスト”というこの新しい単語が悪い。と私は思う。彼氏、友達、ビジネスパートナーなんかとたまには賢ぶった会話をしてみるために頑張りましょう！）
高コンテクスト文化の特徴：
・人と人の結びつきの深さを重視する（人間関係重視）
・表現が抽象的で、ボディランゲージだとを駆使しがち。
・同時に複数の人と話をし合い、仕事をするのを得意としている。
・考え方が曲線的で複雑化している。
・物事の”質”に重点を置く
[対象]フランス・日本・ラテン系・地中海海域・アフリカ・アラブ・アジア
低コンテクスト文化の特徴：
・業績を重視する。結果主義。
・表現がとっても直線的、言語に頼り白黒はっきりしている。
・物事の同時進行を好まず、１つ１つの事を処理する
・考え方が直線的で単純化されている。
・物事の“量”に重点を置く
[対象]アメリカ・北欧・ドイツ・英語圏プロテスタント文化地域
ちなみに高コンテクスト文化の人は基本“質”を求めるから時間にルーズなんだけど日本人だけは違うんだって！日本人って損してるよね！！笑
多分それは低コンテクスト文化であるアメリカやドイツからの影響を大きく受けているからだと思う。でも人種的には元々高コンテクスト。そんなイメージ？
どうかな？面白い？これを読んだら、あー！確かに普段の生活でそういう傾向があるかも！！なんって思うことが多々あると思うの。
とはいえ、あくまでも統計や一般的な考え方だから、実際の個人では違う人もいっぱいいるけどね。特にMaxも私も海外生活が長いから低コンテクスト文化からの影響を受けているし、当てはまらないこともいっぱいある。
今日はこの辺で終わりにするけど、また今度もうちょっとわかりやすい話とか実例とか書こうと思いまーす！

Today, I try to write something sounds a bit difficult but fun and interesting for the people lives in foreign country, have foreign friends, be in international relationship!

According to American anthropologist and cross-cultural researcher “Edward T. Hall”…( I know it sounds the beginning of the classes but don’t worried I won’t write something tooooo difficult and I cannot write difficult sentence with my poor English tho!)
There are two kinds of culture, one is HIGH context culture and LOW context culture. And both France and Japan have HIGH context cultures, as LOW context culture are America, Northern Europe and Germany.
[The feature of HIGH context culture]
1: They focus on the “human relations”
2: Their explanations are more abstract and often use body language
3: Possible to discuss about many topics at the same time, and good at working on different contents
4: Their way of thinking is really rounded, and like to make it complicated. They try to think about all the possibilities.
5: Having value on the “quality”.
Example: France, Japan, Latin countries, around Mediterranean, Africa, Arab, Asia
[The feature of LOW context culture]
1: They focus on the “result”
2: Their explanations are straighter, they rely on language more.
3: prefer to concentrate on one topic, they change/improve the contents step by step.
4: Their way of thinking is really straight and love to make it simplify.
5: Having value on the “quantity and speed”
Examples: United States, Northam Europe, Germany, English-speaking country with protestant culture
In fact, among High context culture, people have a tendency to loose about time. But not in Japan. Maybe because we have many influence by LOW context culture such as American and German.
Anyway it’s just a hypothetical situation, so not all the people are same as these. In fact, both Max and I are already influenced by Low context culture especially when talking about business. But for sure, I sometimes feel we have similar values according to Hight context culture features.

I think these knowledge helps you to have a bit “intelligent” conversation with your bf/gf, friends, business partners and so on.
